St. John’s Lawn Bowling Club
We’re located within St. John’s Park on Main Street & Mountain Avenue – 1199 Main Street (Route 52) in Winnipeg. Parking is available at Holy Trinity Cathedral by the north fence, or on St. John’s Avenue. Teams are drawn for each game and the Club makes available bowls for new members along with free instruction. We require you to wear flat-soled shoes with no heels or heavy treads, and annual fees are very affordable.
A barbecue for members and guests is held at the clubhouse every month through the summer. Founded in 1904, ours is the oldest club in Manitoba. We ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled start time.
We’re affiliated with Bowls Manitoba, which allows athletes to compete in the many tournaments that are held during the season. There are many kinds of tournaments, including a special event for first and second-year bowlers! Provincial Championships are held for Mixed Pairs–and for men and women in Singles, Pairs, Triples, Fours and Seniors (60 years and over)–and for JUNIORS!
In 2019, one of the above junior members (Jacob) won a Gold medal in Vancouver in pairs play.
Norwood Lawn Bowling Club
Norwood LBC has a long history in Winnipeg, with its first location being on Tache close to the corner of St. Mary’s Road in Norwood. That property was sold and Norwood LBC was moved to its current location at 1202 Dakota. Norwood is a very active and successful club. Women have shone especially for many years. In 2012, Manitoba women won GOLD medals in three levels of competition. Of the seven women playing in the Montreal Nationals, five were from Norwood. In 2018, Norwood men won 5 Bronze medals in National Pairs and Fours plus a Silver in Junior Singles. Located a stones-throw from the Bowls Manitoba building and their artificial green, Norwood is in Dakota Park. Elsewhere in this website, you’ll find a Map and our Hours of operation. Gimli Lawn Bowling Club
Gimli LBC is a rural club, located in Manitoba’s interlake, on the edge of Lake Winnipeg. It’s about 50 miles north of Winnipeg. The club holds an association tournament each September. In 2019 it will be the Open Senior Mixed Fours event in September. All LBC members have a say in the running of the Lawn Bowls association by sending a Director to meetings held at Bowls Manitoba Inc. at 1212 Dakota Street. Tuxedo Lawn Bowling Club
With our own website at http://tuxedolbc.wordpress.com Tuxedo LBC offers 50% off your first year’s membership and two bowling greens at 370 Southport (just south of Corydon & Grenfell). We’ll also host some Association events, including the Tom Moore Pairs and Open Pairs. One of our ladies won Gold in International competition in 2019 while another won Bronze in Nationals. Linden Ridge LBC, Gateway & Tommy Prince – Indoor Bowling
Many bowlers from all outdoor clubs join us between October & April for weekly singles, pairs and fours competition indoors on carpet. See our scheduled times and addresses under the Indoor Bowling menu.
St. James LBC
Lawn bowling offers all levels of competition from recreational to competitive, for all age groups from junior to senior. Come out and explore the possibilities of casual, social bowling, fun tournaments, InterClub events, and even the opportunity to compete in Provincial tournaments. Winners at the Provincial level go on to compete at the National level. Everyone is invited to come out to try the sport. Most members wish they had started sooner!
Our bowling season begins every year with the annual Open House on the holiday Monday in May (Victoria Day) at 1 PM. Everyone is welcome to come out and see the club, try the game and socialize. Open Bowling and Leagues begin early in May, providing the weather cooperates. In 2018, not only did we host the Provincial Junior Singles but also the National Junior Singles (under 18 and under 25). The season generally wraps up at the end of September. A Christmas Dinner is held in December.
Our season is generally split into two segments of approximately six weeks. You can join either or both sessions: Doubles on Monday (Enter individually or with a partner). Individuals entered will be matched up with a partner when possible. Triples on Wednesday (Enter individually). Teams will be made up by the convenor. All members are encouraged to participate in these leagues. Join a team or put your name forward to spare. Although stats are kept, the competition in our club leagues is friendly: a great way to spend a summer evening. Members are encouraged to bring guests out to try our sport anytime the club is open. Bowlers must wear flat-soled shoes with minimal tread. No heels, rough grips, or deep grooves. The club provides visitors with a set of bowls to play the game with. Our annual fees are very reasonable and include the use of bowls for new 1st year members and lockers for all bowlers. Bowls are available for members to rent for a nominal fee for the season.

Originally opened on June 15, 1935 by the then Mayor, John Queen, the Club celebrates their 85th Anniversary in 2020 having served the community for over 84 years. In the 1960’s, River Heights LBC had an average annual membership of over 150 players. Upon moving to Winnipeg in 1979, this was my first club. I enjoyed a couple of years of very competitive bowls. Since those days, the green has become full size and the tennis courts have been relocated giving players additional room.
