In 2019, we continued to host three leagues: Singles, Fours, and 3-Bowl Pairs.

At her home club, Norwood LBC, Betty Van Walleghem won the first tournament of the season.  Joining her as the Singles Representatives for Manitoba will be Kris Madsen.

Held at Sargent Park this year, there was a very low turn-out for the Under 14 Boys, and the Under 18 Boys events.  There were no entries for the equivalent Girls events.

Tim Lane and Chris Moore, playing at their own club in Brandon, MB, won the event edging out fellow Wheat City club members, Rod Rose & Jane Neil by one point!  However, Rod & Jane did manage to bowl a perfect 6-bowl end during the match.

This year’s winners of the Tom Moore Trophy – a pairs tournament for first & second year bowlers – are from Norwood LBC and in their first year of bowling.  The tournament was played at Tuxedo LBC.  The runners-up were Bev Mulholland & Kerry Northmore from Tuxedo.

2019 US Open

In November, Rob Law represented Canada in Australia.  He competed in both the men’s triples and men’s fours.  While his teams didn’t medal, he represented us well.

Winter Bowling (October 2019 to May 2020)

In preparation for the indoor/winter season, Bowls Manitoba purchased new mats and contracted for a new indoor lawn bowling location.  Linden Ridge Lawn Bowling Club becomes our third location and hosts the winter league.  In the picture below, Brenda Frank, Gerry Chudrick, Elaine Jones, and Donna Gobeil are NOT being arrested!  They are assisting with the sizing of one of the three new indoor bowling carpets.

Linden Ridge LBC, at 2050 Chevrier Blvd. (Soul Sanctuary), in its inaugural season, hosts the Triples League on Wednesday mornings – plus a jitney at 12:45 pm.

Gateway Centre, at 1717 Gateway Road, became a jitney event also on Wednesdays at 12:45 pm.

Tommy Prince Placeat 90 Sinclair Avenue, continued to provide a jitney on Mondays, Thursdays & Fridays at 10 am – from mid-October thru mid-May.
